Ponki
Hit the water around 9am. Place was packed lots of kayaks and another canoe. Given the traffic on the water and the wind situation I made my way to the back of the pond to let he wind set me for a drift. I also decide to go in to the box and use similar yet different lures than usual given all the pressure that was on the water. Figured the fish have seen spinnerbaits and senkos all morning.
Well no true pattern mostly caught them while moving anchored did not seem to do much even in prime spots.
I did stumble on to 2 big rocks that I had never seen. Picked up 10in bass on a jig off them.
Well weather moved in quick and man I always bring everything but the sink and today I left things at home, won't do that again as the temp dropped big time the Sun was gonzo and the Fog rolled in. I was COLD IN JUNE as I had on very light clothing.
Ground it out until 1:30 with a final tally of 7 bass (biggest a mid 2) 4 picks.
1 jig Bass 1 spinnerbait Bass 1 buzzbait Bass and the rest on swimbaits.
Had a few blow ups on the frog and missed a beast of a hit 2 feet of the tip of my rod on a buzzbait retrieve that sacred the crap out of me lol.
All and all not bad not great but felt good to get out again after 2 weeks off the water.
Last time I went there the weeded areas had tons of little hatched fish swimming around. Plenty of food below no fish breaking the water to eat dagonflys on the surface.
also don't hear much @ the ponki poag. good info to us newbies on this site about said destination. Every bit of info is valuable to me. thanks
actually thats a good trip. Ive only had one bass in the last two trips to Ponki, but lots of nice piks, mostly on spinner baits. The weeds are getting pretty thick now so options are more limited.
