1st/2nd Trip To Pachaug Pond

9/17 Had to pick up my wife at Bradley this morning. NO sense in going in for a 1/2 day when I get paid personal and vacation time to use. So... Left home around 1:00, put in around 1:30.
First trip, big lake, didn't cover much more than the narrow part of the north end. Caught one largemouth in the main channel that runs north to the dam and Pachaug River , threw it back. Drifted south to a series of buoys which, I believe, may be for water ski competition (anyone know for sure?) That's where I had my first run-in with a white perch, WOW (I thought it was a small carp until I came here and looked at some pics). Then paddled to the east between the shore and an island. Picked up a 3 yellow perch and a bluegill, threw 'em all back. Not interested. Then trolled back to the ramp catching nothing else on the way. After getting the yak out of the water around 5:30, I decided to stretch my legs a little and walked over to the east side of the ramp, where there is sort of a small inlet (sort of, except there is nothing being let in!) Wham, 2 lb largemouth, except I weighed it at home and it came up as 1#. Checked my scale with a 5# gym weight, checked out at 5# so I guess it really was a 1#'r.

9/19 Going to check out my new rod. Take out from Dunks. Put in around 7:30 and went straight to the place where I caught the yellow perch and the bluegill. Caught 1 smallmouth a released him, caught another on the floating minnow. Kept him, but broke off one of the treble hooks removing it. Flipped the treble hook so there were 2 points down and kept on fishing. Went around behind the island and then out the south side, catching nothing else. Tried a rattle trap (about 6"). Still hoping for a pike, but nothing. Went to the west side and came up with a bluegill and two crappies (kept one). Made my way back to the boat ramp and stumbled onto another school of white perch. Can't get over their fight, WOW. Kept throwing them back, hoping for a larger one, but then the power boat parade started and caught nothing else. Left around 4:20.
Before you comment about the wire leader in the pictures, I was just lazy! Trying out a new rod and looking for pike.
